MANCHESTER UNTIED legend Rio Ferdinand has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo's claims they weren't the best of friends.
The former England captain claims he used to 'take the mick' out of the Real Madrid superstar and that Ronaldo probably still holds a grudge.
The Portuguese ace said: "When I was at Manchester United with [Paul] Scholes, [Ryan] Giggs and [Rio] Ferdinand we only said 'good morning' and 'good night' and we were formidable on the pitch.
"We don't give each other kisses and hugs. I don't have to go to dinner with Bale or Benzema or invite them to my house.
"What's important is our understanding on the pitch. Little meals or kisses and hugs don't mean anything."
Ferdinand said Ronaldo's comments proved he is as passionate as ever about playing for Real and is determined to compete with Barcelona.
He responded on BT Sport, saying: "He's gone off me. He used to live next door to me. That's unbelievable. He didn't like my cooking."
"That [the Ronaldo press conference] just shows the emotion he's got in him and the desire to win and the desire to get back on top.
"At the moment everyone's talking about Barcelona and he's not happy with that. And that's his competitive streak coming out.
"I actually used to take the mick out of him in the changing rooms, I think he's got the hump. He used to come in in tight jeans and we used to murder him. He didn't get it."
Real Madrid face Roma in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash this evening.
